Wigemark visits FENA news agency: Professionalism in media is essential for countries aspiring to become EU member states

Head of the EU Delegation to BiH and EU Special Representative in BiH Lars-Gunnar Wigemark visited 'FENA' premises on Monday, where he was informed about work and functioning of this news agency. Ambassador Wigemark emphasized on this ocassion the importance of proper and professional reporting by a news agency.

"News does not come out of nowhere, somebody has to report it, and people reporting should be professionals who understand what it means to be the professional journalist. We attach a lot of importance to this in the EU. Media, media freedom, professionalism in the media is essential also for countries aspiring to become members of the EU", he stressed.

Ambassador Wigemark also warned about situation where people lack proper information as well as about phenomenon of fake news.

"I must say I really appreciate FENA and what you do, the kind of work that people who work here on 24/7 basis do, day and night, including weekends, and it is something that we as the EU use a lot also here in BiH", Wigemark concluded.

FENA General Manager Elmir Huremovic thanked the Ambassador who recognized the role and importance of this news agency both as media outlet and partner of the EU Delegation in BiH.
