Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said that Austria supported Western Balkan countries’ accelerated accession to the European Union.
Following the adoption of a strategy for ‘A credible enlargement perspective for and enhanced EU engagement with the Western Balkans’, Kurz issued a press statement saying that “it has been and still is extremely important for Austria to support the Western Balkan countries on their path to the EU”.
“We want to intensively advocate progress concerning European perspective of the region, especially as of July, during Austria’s presiding over the EU”, said Kurz.
At the same time, Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borisov said that the EU enlargement strategy for the Western Balkans recognized strategic importance of the region and gave a clear European perspective to Western Balkan countries.
Borisov announced that Bulgaria would continue to work on European integration of the countries in the region, and added that he expected to see leaders of the Western Balkan countries at the Summit scheduled to take place in Sofia in May.
