Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic addressed the plenary session of European Parliament in Strasbourg on Tuesday, commenting among other things the enlargement policy of the EU and newly adopted Strategy for the Western Balkans.
Plenkovic emphasized that Croatia is a proof of transformative power that the membership perspective carries along but also a proof that the Union is a peace project, which strongly contributes to reconciliation and trust.
"European Union is still a community that the many want to join. And those are my six neighborly countries of southeast of Europe, the closest neighbors...", he added.
He also expressed content with the European Commission presenting its new enlargement strategy for the Western Balkans. emphasizing that particular attention here has to be paid to BiH.
"It is a country of specific internal order, consisting of three constituent peoples - Croats, Bosniaks and Serbs - where their full equality, together with others, must be foundation for future. Only BiH firmly anchored in European values can guarantee safe and stable future to its citizens. That is what a significant part of its citizens wants. And they want it on grounds of just electoral legislation", he stressed.
Plenkovic concluded by saying it is a strategic interest of all member states to help their neighbors in strengthening and building a system that is prosperous, peacebuilding, stable and democratic.
