Head of the EU Delegation to BiH Lars-Gunnar Wigemark paid a visit to the Agency for Prevention of Corruption and Coordination of Fight against Corruption on Monday, where he said that the EU’s support in fight against corruption is selfless and will be even more active.

Wigemark further noted that a strategy for the Western Balkans is being drafted, which is done in cooperation with all member states of the EU. “The rule of law will be one of the most important elements of this strategy, including the measures to counter corruption. All relevant actors in BiH at all levels of authority need to cooperate with the Agency, because this is a common problem that concerns everyone in the country”, Wigemark underlined.

Agency Director Hasim Sabotic deems that a stronger support and assistance of decision makers in BiH is needed, in order for the Agency to respond in adequate way to its tasks regarding the prevention and fight against corruption. “We informed Head of the EU Delegation about staffing, organizational structure and laws under which the Agency operates. The last IPA project greatly contributed to enhancement of capacities”, Sabotic concluded.

Agency Director also recalled that last year the Agency sent to BiH Parliament an initiative for changes to the Law on Agency and the Law on Protection of Whistleblowers, in order to get better tools for fight against corruption.
