The Government of the FBiH adopted the proposal of the Law on Population Health Protection from Tobacco and Other Smoking Products, with the ultimate goal of protecting and improving the overall health of the population.
The proposal of this Law regulates a range of measures, including - among others - a ban and restriction on the use of tobacco and other smoking products; ban on tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship; restriction of minors’ access to tobacco and other smoking products; and the regulation of composition of tobacco products.
Media reported that the Law banned the use of all tobacco and other smoking products, except chewing tobacco and snuff, in all closed public spaces, workplaces and public transport. Furthermore, the Law also prohibits smoking in private vehicles in presence of minors.
The Law also prescribes formation of the FBiH Commission on the Protection of Health of the Population from Tobacco and Other Tobacco Products, which will supervise the enforcement of the Law.
Government of the FBiH announced that the Law was partially harmonized with the Directive 2014/40/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of April 3, 2014 on the approximation of the laws, regulations and administrative provisions of the Member States concerning the manufacture, presentation and sale of tobacco and related products, as well as with the Directive 2003/33/EC of May 26, 2003 on the approximation of the laws, regulations and administrative provisions of the Member States relating to the advertising and sponsorship of tobacco products.
