A new exhibition at the History Museum in Sarajevo highlights the plight children born due to war (children born as consequence of rape and children whose fathers were foreign humanitarian workers or peacekeepers who were stationed in BiH during the war), as well as the plight of their mothers.

The exhibition entitled “Breaking Free” represents an attempt to share the experience of women and their children with the society which usually ignores their existence.

Attendees at the opening ceremony held on April 8, 2019 had the opportunity to talk to the children of war, who are adults today, and their mothers.

Children born because of war sent the message that their mothers are not responsible for what happened to them, and that their trauma must be acknowledged by law and by the society.
