Bosnian tennis player Damir Dzumhur defeated Italian Thomas Fabbiano in three sets to set up a second-round clash with Yuki Bhambri.
The world No. 38 broke his opponent’s serve in the fourth game of the first set, but then needed as many as seven set points to close the set.
Fabbiano responded by winning 11 consecutive points at the start of the second set to take a commanding 3-0 lead, and eventually won the set in only 25 minutes without dropping a single game.
However, Dzumhur managed to turn the tide in the third set, and broke Italian’s serve twice - in the third and the seventh game - to win the match and end the streak of three consecutive losses.
The 25-year-old Sarajevo native will face Yuki Bhambri of India in the second round of VTB Kremlin Cup in Moscow.
Dzumhur and Bhambri - who is currently ranked 146th in the world - have never played against each other.
