Dzumhur aggravates pre-existing injury, retires from ATP tournament in Sydney

Bosnian tennis player Damir Dzumhur has gifted 19-year-old Australian Alex de Minaur a place in the Sydney International quarter-finals. 

Dzumhur retired midway through the second set, while trailing 6-2, 3-0.

Statement published on Dzumhur’s Facebook page reads that the world No. 30 has aggravated an old hamstring injury.

Dzumhur will undergo additional medical tests on Thursday in Melbourne, after which he will decide whether to play in the first Grand Slam tournament of the season, the Australian Open.

Meanwhile, Aldin Setkic and Mirza Basic have been both eliminated in the first qualifying round of the Australian Open. Setkic lost to world No. 220 John Patrick Smith in three sets, 2-6, 7-6, 3-6, while Basic lost in straight sets to Columbian Alejandro Gonzales (7-6, 6-2).
