Under-17 national football team of Bosnia and Herzegovina lost to Belgium in the second group stage match at the UEFA European Under-17 Championship in England.

Zoran Erbez’s men hoped to build on their 3-2 victory against Denmark several days ago, knowing that another three points would secure them quarterfinal berth for the first time in nation’s history.

However, Belgium proved to be too strong, as Yorbe Vertessen and Jamie Yayi Mpie scored in the first half to give Thierry Siquet’s side a commanding lead.

Stefan Rankic scored an own goal midway through the second half, and substitute Gabriel Lemoine added another one minute from time to secure a convincing 4-0 victory for Belgium.

In other Group C match on Tuesday, Troy Parrott’s early goal gave Republic of Ireland a 1-0 victory over Denmark.

Tuesday’s results mean that Belgium have won Group C regardless of their result against eliminated Denmark on Friday. Bosnia and Herzegovina must beat the Republic of Ireland on Friday to set up a Monday quarterfinal clash with the Netherlands.

The match between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republic of Ireland will be played at the St. George’s Park Stadium, Burton-on-Trent, at 1400 hrs on Friday.
