Bosnian tennis players Damir Dzumhur and Mirza Basic lost their first-round matches at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Toronto.
20-year-old Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece defeated Dzumhur in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6, in one hour and 28 minutes.
Tsitsipas dominated from the very beginning, allowing Dzumhur only one break point in the entire match; furthermore, the Bosnian No. 1 won only two points on his opponent’s serve in the second set.
Mirza Basic lost to former world number one Novak Djokovic with the exact same scoreline, 6-3, 7-6, in a match that lasted two minutes longer than the one between Dzumhur and Tsitsipas.
Basic - who entered the main draw of the Rogers Cup as the lucky looser after Hyeon Chung withdrew from the tournament due to a back injury - played a good game against the 13-time Grand Slam champion.
Djokovic broke Basic in the sixth game of the first set to go ahead 4-2 and then wrapped up the opening set three games later. The Wimbledon champion was one break up two times in the second set, but Basic managed to immediately break him back both times - only to lose the set, and the match, 7-3 in the tiebreak.
