British Home Secretary Sajid Javid will unveil his plans for the UK’s post-Brexit immigration policy, which is supposed to reduce the immigration to a ‘sustainable level’, Javid’s office announced on Wednesday.
The new system, which will mark an end to free arrival of the EU Member States’ citizens, will include new visa rules for skilled workers, and no cap on high-skilled professions - such as physicians and engineers.
“It will be a single, skills-based immigration system built around the talent and expertise people can bring, rather than where they come from”, said Javid.
“That will maximize the benefits of immigration and demonstrate that the United Kingdom is open for business”, he explained.
UK-based media reported that the document is also expected to include details of the approach to low-skilled workers. According to speculations, they might be able to apply for short-term visas for up to a year.
