A number of award-winning movies will be screened in the Meeting Point Cinema in Sarajevo, 13 Hamdije Kresevljakovica Street, until the end of January.
A 2019 French drama ‘Les Misérables’, directed by Ladj Ly, will be screened on January 24 and 28 at 20:00 hrs, as well as on January 26 and 30 at 17:00 hrs.
The movie, inspired by the 2005 riots in the Paris suburbs, was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Jury Prize. ‘Les Misérables’ won the European Discovery award at the 32nd European Film Awards.
Quentin Tarantino’s ninth film, ‘Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood’, will be screened tonight at 17:00 hrs, and then again on January 20 and 27, also at 17:00 hrs.
‘Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood’ won Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, Best Supporting Actor (Brad Pitt) and Best Screenplay awards at the 77th Golden Globe Awards earlier this week in Beverly Hills.
‘Joker’, a 2019 psychological thriller film directed and produced by Todd Phillips, will be screened on January 18 and 21 at 17:00 hrs.
The film won the Golden Lion at the 76th Venice International Film Festival. ‘Joker’ received four nominations at the 77th Golden Globe Awards, and won Best Original Score - Motion Picture for Hildur Guðnadóttir and Best Actor - Motion Picture Drama for Joaquin Phoenix. The American Film Institute included ‘Joker’ as one of the top 10 films of 2019.
Also, a 2019 Macedonian documentary film ‘Honeyland’, directed by Tamara Kotevska and Ljubomir Stefanov, will be screened on January 8, 13, and 18 and 20:00 hrs, as well as on January 11 and 16 at 17:00 hrs.
‘Honeyland’ won three awards at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, including the Grand Jury Prize, the Special Jury Award for Impact for Change and the Special Jury Award for Cinematography, as well as the Audience Award for the Best Documentary Movie at the 2019 Sarajevo Film Festival. It was selected as North Macedonia’s entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards, and made the Academy Awards shortlist in December 2019.
And finally, ‘God Exists, Her Name Is Petrunya’ - a 2019 Macedonian drama film directed by Teona Strugar Mitevska - will be screened on January 15, 16, 20, 26, and 29 at 20:00 hrs, and also on January 18 and 24 at 17:00 hrs.
The movie won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury and the Guild Film Prize at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival.
