Georg Friederich Handel’s opera in three acts ‘Agrippina’ will be screened live in Sarajevo’s ‘Chamber Theater 55’ today at 18:55 hrs.

The opera - which tells the story of Agrippina, the mother of Nero, as she plots the downfall of the Roman Emperor Claudius and the installation of her son as the new emperor - premiered in Venice at the Teatro San Giovanni Grisostomo in 1709.

Audience in Sarajevo will have the opportunity to watch in HD resolution live performance of the opera from the New York’s Metropolitan Opera.

Statement published on the Metropolitan Opera’s official web site reads that Sir David McVicar’s production “ingeniously reframes the action of this black comedy about the abuse of power to ‘the present’, where it should loudly resonate”.

Handel was a German, later British, composer who is regarded as one of the greatest composers of the Baroque era.
