This year’s Museum Week 2020, the worldwide festival for cultural institutions on social media, takes place on May 11-17.
The event is the result of an initiative launched by twelve museums in France that wanted to further expand their audience.
Since 2014, Museum Week has grown to include over 60,000 participants from more than 100 countries. It has become the first virtual, worldwide cultural event on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Weibo, WeChat and VKontakte.
Regardless of the location and the size of their collections, museums communicate with their audiences through seven hashtags: #heroesMW, the #CultureInQuarantineMW inspired by the Getty Museum initiative (#ArtInQuarantine), the flagship theme #togetherMW, #MuseumMomentsMW to recall memories, #climateMW dedicated to climate change, #technologyMW that allows museums to extend their reason-to-be on digital platforms, and #dreamsMW.
The National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina is among this year’s Museum Week participants.
