The screening is organized as a part of the fourth Sarajevo Irish Festival and is free of charge.

The Breadwinner’ is an animated movie about eleven-year-old Parvana, who lives with her family in a one room apartment in Kabul, Afghanistan, which is under Taliban rule.

After her father is arrested without warning for being an intellectual, and as her family becomes desperate for food, Parvana is forced to cut off her hair and disguise herself as a boy so that she can venture out in public and become the breadwinner for her family. 

The Breadwinner

The movie, executive produced by Angelina Jolie, was directed by Nora Twomey, and the screenplay was written by Anita Doron, based on a book written by Deborah Ellis.

The screening will be followed by a discussion featuring Doron and the young star of movie Saara Chaudry.
