A total of EUR 2.5 million worth of housing units and livelihood grants have been provided for 140 Roma families, including 2,400 individuals and 320 children, in nine different municipalities across the country.
Since 2007, the European Union has provided a total of over EUR 7.5 million to support the socio-economic inclusion and integration of the Roma in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including through housing.
The ‘Roma Action II’ project was implemented by Hilfswerk Austria International in Tuzla, Zenica, Bijeljina, Gracanica, Zavidovici, Kakanj, Banovici, Modrica and Brcko.
Head of the EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina Lars-Gunnar Wigemark underlined the importance of cooperation between the local authorities and the EU during the implementation of the ‘Roma Action II’ project.
Wigemark added that besides social inclusion, other components of this project included activities related to creation of social-economic conditions and new jobs for Roma.
