The new film by Jasmila Zbanic 'Quo Vadis, Aida?' premiered at the Venice Film Festival on Thursday.
The film is competing for the Golden Lion award. After the world premiere, it will be screened 12 more times during the festival.
The film tells the story of Srebrenica genodice through the eyes of Aida, former teacher who works as translator for the Dutch batallion of UN peace troops stationed in Srebrenica. It depicts the final days of the fall of Srebrenica into the hands of Serb troops and the aftermath of the fall.
"We dedicated this movie to women who lost their sons, husbands and the people closest to them,” Zbanic told reporters at a press conference held ahead of the screening.
The initial reviews of the film are overwhelmingly positive. The audience in Bosnia and Herzegovina will not have the opportunity to see the film anytime soon as all cinemas in the country remain closed.
However, it is expected that the film will start screening in theatres across Europe in early 2021.
