Reigning champions of Bosnia and Herzegovina FK Sarajevo lost 3-1 to Scotland’s Celtic FC in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League first qualifying round.
It was not a walk in the park for Celtic, as Sarajevo took the lead in the 29th minute of the game through Mirko Oremus.
Michael Johnston put the teams back on level terms with a fantastic shot from outside of the penalty area ten minutes before the break, and Neil Lennon’s men scored two more times in the second half to almost secure second qualifying round berth.
French striker Odsonne Edouard took advantage of a defensive blunder in the 51st minute, and substitute Scott Sinclair’s back-heel five minutes from time gave the Bhoys a two-goal cushion.
The return leg will be played at the Celtic Park on Wednesday, July 17.
The winners of this tie will play against either Estonian champions Nõmme Kalju FC, or Albania’s KF Shkëndija. Losers will receive a bye to the Europa League third qualifying round.
