In an interview for Banja Luka-based daily Nezavisne novine, French Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Guillaume Rousson reiterated that France supported country’s path towards the EU.

However, according to Rousson, France will also insist on necessary reforms being implemented in Bosnia and Herzegovina before the country is granted membership in the Union.

Rousson confirmed that French President Emmanuel Macron had called for stronger engagement of French ambassadors in the Balkans.

Macron’s call represents encouragement to France’s concrete strategy for the Western Balkans, which was adopted upon his request in April 2019. It also represents continuation of France’s efforts to strengthen its engagement in order to stabilize Western Balkans and develop bilateral relations with countries in the region”, said Rousson.

The French Ambassador announced that French Development Agency (Agence Française de Développement, AFD) would come to the Balkans with a budget of between EUR 100 million and 150 million.
