Sarajevo-based charity association ‘Pomozi.ba’ has launched a project aimed at providing meals to people who have difficulties affording them, by opening a catering facility named ‘Restaurant of Goodwill’.
This restaurant is located in the Skolska Street in Travnik, and it has been operating since October 2019. The restaurant focuses exclusively on serving free meals to members of socially vulnerable groups from the area of Travnik and neighboring settlements.
‘Pomozi.ba’ opened the restaurant in cooperation with Amir Fulurija, who provided premises of his former restaurant for the purpose of helping people in need. Fulurija owned a restaurant named ‘Seher’ in Travnik, and he had cooperated with this charity association in the past by preparing a limited number of meals so that the association could deliver them to homes of elderly people in that town who are either ill or socially vulnerable.
After a certain period of cooperating in this manner, the association and Fulurija joined forces to open a restaurant entirely for the socially vulnerable people. As part of implementation of this idea, Fulurija closed down the restaurant ‘Seher’ and turned what used to be a commercial restaurant into a restaurant intended for people in need, which refers to whoever is unable to afford a quality and decent meal on their own.
The main idea was to prevent the socially vulnerable people from possibly feeling humiliated by having to wait in long queues in soup kitchens, due to which this restaurant is a place where they can feel comfortable and where they can eat healthy and quality meals that are usually included in menus of quality restaurants.
Since its opening, ‘Restaurant of Goodwill’ grew into a great opportunity to provide everyone with equal chances to eat nutritious food. At that respect, the catering facility that once served delicious meals to people who can afford to eat at restaurants now serves equally tasty meals for those living in difficult conditions.
The restaurant operates every day, from 11:00 to 12:30 hours, and the daily menu always includes a main dish with a juice, a salad, and occasionally some kind of dessert.
Speaking for Pulse.ba, Spokesperson for ‘Pomozi.ba’ Maja Arslanagic explained that Fulurija had decided to close down his restaurant so that he could embark on a humane mission together with this charity organization. “Whoever does not have enough money to buy and make a concrete meal can come to this restaurant. They need to bring a certificate from the Social Welfare Center as evidence of social vulnerability, or any other proof of low income, illness, and factors like that. We always try to make the meal that is quality, delicious and nutritious. The menu depends on the donations and items that are available at the specific moment. The meals are prepared by Amir and his wife Adisa Fulurija”, said Arslanagic. She pointed out that ‘Pomozi.ba’ would like to open this kind of restaurants in other parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina as well, but added that future activities in this regard would depend on the support in the coming period.
All companies, associations or individuals can help with donations to ‘Restaurant of Goodwill’. The donations can include either food items or money that can be used to buy the items that are required for preparing the meals. The food items can be brought directly to the restaurant in Travnik or to the premises of ‘Pomozi.ba’ in Sarajevo, Dr. Fetaha Becirbegovica 8 Street in Cengic Vila district. It is also possible to donate money to the association’s bank accounts or by calling the charity number 17001 where each call enables donating BAM two for one meal.
