A series of earhtquakes hit Albania in the night between November 25 and 26, with the most severe one of 6.4 magnitude hitting in the early hours of Tuesday. The earthquake hit at a relativelly shallow depth of around 20 km.
The epicenter was in the port city of Durres, some 34 km northwest of Tirana. Tremors and several aftershocks could be felt throughout the region, including Bosnia and Herzegovina, and as far as 700 km away from Tirana.
At least six people have died, and more than 325 injured as buildings collapsed. The situation is most difficult in Tirana, Thumane and Durres, where figherfighters and military are trying to rescue citizens caught under the rubble. School has been cancelled throughout the country.
