The 2020 EHF European Men’s Handball Championship commenced on Thursday with matches in preliminary round groups A and C.
Croatia has opened their campaign with a 27-21 victory over Montenegro in Graz, Austria. Also in Group A, Belarus defeated Serbia 35-30 behind nine goals from PGE Vive Kielce’s Artsem Karalek.
In Group C, two-times European champions Germany defeated Netherlands 34-23, while Spain overcame Latvia 33-22.
National handball team of Bosnia and Herzegovina begins their first-ever participation in a major handball tournament with a match against one of the 2020 EHF Euro co-hosts, Norway, tonight at 20:30 hrs.
“We did not come here to watch how others play, but to show that we know how to play as well. Physically, we are not behind other teams in the tournament. We have the height, the length, and the width necessary to play in this kind of tournaments”, said Bilal Suman, head coach of the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The match will be played in the Trondheim Spektrum Arena in Trondheim, and will be screened live on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s public broadcaster BHT1.
Two best teams from each of the six preliminary groups will qualify for the tournament’s main round.
The 2020 EHF Euro is the 14th edition of the tournament, the first one co-hosted by three countries, Austria, Norway and Sweden, and the first one to feature 24 teams.
