Bosnia and Herzegovina registered a new record high number of new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday with 331 persons testing positive in just one day. Seven cases of death were registered as well. The RS confirmed 134 cases, the FBiH confirmed 190 and the Brcko District confirmed seven new cases.

One of the new cases is a three-and-a-half-month old baby girl who has been hospitalized at COVID-19 department of Trebinje Hospital after she tested positive for coronavirus infection. The baby is currently in stable condition, showing semi-severe symptoms of the disease. The number of children that contracted the virus in BiH has been on the rise.

According to data of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the COVID-19 case toll currently stands at 9,115, the number of active cases is 4,688; 4,159 persons have recovered and 268 persons have died so far. Sarajevo is currently the biggest hotspot of COVID-19 as it has registered 90 new cases over the past 24 hours, followed by Banja Luka with 20 new cases, Zvornik with 17 new cases, Tuzla with 14 new cases and Bijeljina with nine new cases.

Epidemiologist Aida Pitic emphasized that they are not surprised with current epidemiologic situation because increase in number of new Coronavirus cases has been recorded over last two or three weeks. Pitic stressed that people have to understand that if they fail to respect simple preventive measures, namely wearing of protective mask and keeping physical distance, number of infection cases will resume to increase.
