A horrifying island made of hundreds of tons of garbage floating in Drina Lake can be observed near Visegrad. The garbage is assumed to have been washed down Lim and Drina Rivers from Montenegro all the way to Visegrad.

The garbage is not only posing an environmental hazard, but it could also jeopardize the Visegrad Hydropower Plant. Workers of the Hydropower Plant have attempted to collect as much as possible in order to keep the plant operation.

General Manager of the Visegrad Hydropower Plant Nedjeljko Perisic stated that the plant has been facing this problem for decades. Although Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina officials have discussed the issue protection of Drina River on several occasions, they failed to agree on any concrete measures.
