In an article written to mark the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Grand Canyon National Park, The Telegraph mentioned some of the most impressive gorges located in all corners of the world, more exactly in Peru, Italy, the United States, Namibia, Mexico, Greece, France, Spain, Kazakhstan, Oman, Iceland, Madagascar, England, and Croatia.

The list, however, also includes two canyons in Bosnia and Herzegovina: 82 kilometers-long Tara River Canyon, the longest canyon in Europe and second longest in the world, the last 36 kilometers of which are shared between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro; and the canyon of the Rakitnica River, carved between Bjelasnica and Visocica mountains, southeast from Sarajevo.
